High-concentration carbon dioxide gas which may be a byproduct of other gases is used to make dry ice. The carbon dioxide-rich gas is filtered to get rid of other gases or impurities. When the gas becomes 99.9% pure, it is pressurized and refrigerated for liquefaction at -78.5 Degrees Celsius. At the next stage, the pressure is reduced which causes some liquid carbon dioxide to vaporize. It also lowers the temperature further causing the remaining carbon dioxide to solidify.
