Dry Ice Pellets at AMS Dry Ice – The largest Supplier of Dry Ice in Delhi

dry ice pellets

Dry ice is a solid form of carbon dioxide that is created when the gas is pressurized and cooled. Dry ice is commonly used to keep food and beverages cold during transportation. Dry ice sublimates directly into a gas when exposed to normal atmospheric temperature, which means it does not convert into liquid.

Dry ice pellets are widely used across various industries due to their ease of application. Due to their versatility, dry ice pellets are in high demand. They are used for storage and transportation across several industries.

AMS Dry Ice is one of the largest suppliers of dry ice in Delhi. It provides pure and best-quality dry ice. Find out more about dry ice below.

What is Dry Ice?

Dry ice is the solid form of carbon dioxide gas. The gas sublimates or freezes at the temperature of -78 degrees celsius to form dry ice. The process of solidification is known as a deposition. When the pressure is released, the solid carbon dioxide evaporates into a gas and the process is known as sublimation. Dry ice has a lower density than water and is non-toxic.

How is Dry Ice made?

Dry ice is made by freezing carbon dioxide (CO2) gas at a temperature of -109.3°F (-78.5°C). The gas is put under pressure, which causes it to turn into a liquid. The liquid CO2 is then released into a low-pressure chamber, where it quickly expands and evaporates, forming dry ice.

Carbon dioxide gas is released as a byproduct of other gases. This reclaimed carbon dioxide is used to make dry ice. Firstly, the gas is filtered to get rid of other gases or impurities. The pure carbon dioxide gas is then pressurized and refrigerated for liquefaction at -78.5 Degrees Celsius. The pressure is reduced later which causes some liquid carbon dioxide to vaporize. At this stage, the temperature lowers down and the remaining carbon dioxide solidifies. Hence, the carbon dioxide is converted into snow-like dry ice. The dry ice supplier near me then compresses it to form dry ice blocks or pellets for easier application.

What are the Properties of Dry Ice?

Dry ice has many applications in different industries. It is useful because of its various properties. Some of these properties are:

  • Dry ice sublimates to gas form when exposed to heat i.e., it directly converts into a gas without converting into a liquid first.
  • It is a non-flammable, colourless, odourless, and non-toxic substance.
  • It is cooler and denser than water ice.
  • It reduces the pH of water on dissolving releasing carbonic acid.
  • On sublimation, it does not leave behind any residue.
  • It does not conduct electricity.

What are the forms of Dry Ice?

The snow-like dry ice is compressed into the following forms:

  • Dry Ice Large Blocks
  • Dry Ice Pellets

Dry Ice Pellets

Dry Ice Pellets are formed by compressing dry ice into a small cylindrical shape. They come in various sizes for different requirements.

They mostly come in the following sizes:

  • 3mm
  • 6mm
  • 9mm
  • 10mm
  • 13mm
  • 16mm
  • 19mm

The most commonly used size is 3mm which is used across various industries.

What is the Use of Dry Ice Pellets?

Dry ice pellets are used for various purposes across several industries. The pellets help to keep food cold and frozen during storage and transportation. In the medical field, dry ice pellets are used to keep vaccines at a controlled temperature. In the industrial field, they can be used to clean surfaces, remove contaminants, and cool hot items. Dry ice pellets are also used in fire extinguishers, as well as in theatrical smoke and fog effects.

Find below the various applications of them:

Dry Ice Blasting

Dry ice blasting is an effective and efficient cleaning method. It is used across various industries because of its effectiveness and convenience.

During the process, dry ice pellets are propelled at very high speeds through a dry ice blasting machine. On contacting the dirty surface, the kinetic energy of the pellets scrapes off the dirt. The dry ice sublimates into gas leaving no residue behind.

Dry ice cleaning is an effective, non-abrasive, and non-residue cleaning method. This method is used in different industries for cleaning machinery and equipment.

Dry ice cleaning is used in some of the following industries:

  • Machinery Industry
  • Food Industry
  • Automobile Industry
  • Food Industry
  • Printing Industry
  • Wood Industry
  • Rubber Industry
  • Power Industry
  • Oil and Gas Industry
  • Maritime Industry
  • Aerospace and Aviation Industry
  • Mining Industry
  • Medical Industry
  • Packaging Industry

Food Industry

Dry ice is used in the food industry mostly for transportation and storage. It is used by meat or frozen food suppliers to store and transport them. It is also used for prolonging the shelf life of organic fresh foods like vegetables and fruits.

Medical Industry

Dry ice pellets are used for preserving biological samples during transportation. It is also used for storing vaccines or medicines which need to be preserved at cold temperatures. Dry ice is also used in transporting them.

Entertainment Industry

When dry ice is put in water, fog is created which gives a smoky effect. Several theatres, restaurants, and amusement parks use dry ice to create a smoke effect for recreational purposes.
